We also try and put on events every so often that we can invite friends to.
Also, we we spend one particular week in the year running an Events Week, where we really try and get out there
on campus and reach as many students as possible, with events every day.
So here is a break down of someof the things that have done in the past:
We’ve previously run Lunchbars where we have short talk from a guest speaker for anyone to come to, a well as providing a free lunch to anyone who decides to come along. While it’s a great chance for some free food and fellowship, it’s also an awesome chance to really impact people who’re interested in Christianity.
Hot Chocolate Stations have been done before, and they’re basically a bit like Water Stations! They’re a great chance to get talk to anyone interested in why we’d be crazy enough to give out free hot chocolate, and it’s good exposure for Jesus at the University with a positive outcome.
As part of serving students at the University, we’ve offered a Washing-up Service, which gives us a chance to meet people where they're at, while getting our hands dirty doing some washing up for them! In addition to that, we're likely to end up talking about why we'd do something like this that's so mad from their viewpoint!
Another outreach event that we’ve done which reaches people where they’re at is Dial-a-Doughnut, where people could ring/text in for a doughnut to be delivered to them, while asking a question relevant to Christianity. By bringing them an answer to something that matters to them personally, we hope to find that God’s word impacts their lives and gets them to think a bit more about faith.
We’ve also put on pub quizzes, which are a light-hearted way to give a Gospel message slotted in between the end of the rounds and the answers/results, while building relationships and generally having a fun time.
Grill a Christian is a radical event, where we take over the Students' Union for a Friday night, and anyone's invited to come along and ask any question to a pre-prepared panel. While it can challenge and strengthen our own faith, it’s also an amazing opportunity to get down to answering questions that people are ready to pose/inquire about dead on, right there and then. Pretty daring if anything because you never know what’s going to come up, but that just makes it more exciting!
