Portsmouth Christian Union is passionate about International students and making them feel welcomed into their new surroundings. We see the international population at the university as an amazing possibility to spread the word of God!
Working with Portsmouth University’s International Office, we have organised quizzes, meals and general ‘get to know each other’ like gatherings. This introduces new international students to other students from across the world as well as Christian Union members who provide support and guidance. Through these meals and quizzes we can effectively portray God’s love and encourage students to explore Christianity more closely through sharing of personal testimonies and short talks on God’s word.
The International Cafe is a dominant form of evangelism that we are actively involved in. This takes place every Monday night at the King’s Centre on Elm Grove and provides a chilled, open space which members of the Christian Union and members of various churches help run and host, engaging with International students in a one on one basis. The cafe is run by Friends International, a Christian organisation aimed at International students, and as a Christian Union we feel it is a great
great organisation to provide support to, as they share our vision to introduce International students to the love of our amazing, awesome God! Getting involved in the international cafe is a great way to form friendship and introduce International students to the Christian faith.
Alongside the International Cafe we have the Visa course and Discipleship Explored, where International students can meet together to explore Christianity and get involved in fellowship with one another. Christian Union members are encouraged to lead both courses as it is a rewarding and wonderful way to make friends and talk about Jesus!
In the university there are many different cultures and nationalities, it is an amazing blessing that we can engage and meet with so many International students and talk about the love of God.
